Holly Miranda (Popfrenzy Presents) News

We're touring Holly Miranda in June!!

Ethereal indie-folk songstress Holly Miranda will make her Australian debut this June with performances in Sydney (for Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House), Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

A stripped back acoustic performance on piano, Holly will showcase tracks from her debut album The Magician’s Private Library.

In Sydney, the 27-year-old is also part of the Slow line up in the Concert Hall on June 4 alongside Vivid LIVE curator Laurie Anderson, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Chirgilchin, Doveman and the festival house band.

More details go to our Presents section!

No ordinary songbird, Holly spent her childhood between Tennessee and her birthplace in Michigan. Attending church five times a week for 14 years, there was no MTV allowed and even The Smurfs were deemed demonic. Luckily her parents were okay with Motown as they had grown up in Detroit.

At 16 she decided to move to New York City where she crashed at her sister’s apartment. Holly first met Dave Sitek five years ago in a lobby – her rehearsal space was next door to Headgear Studios where he recorded the first Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV On The Radio albums.

Even without a record or a label of her own, word slowly spread. Kanye West alerted hundreds of thousands to Holly when he blogged about her last year and Vanity Fair dubbed her the real deal after comparing her voice to a “scratchy, lyrically haunting Stevie Nicks”.

She has recorded sessions at La Blogotheque and Black Cab, as well as supporting The XX, Friendly Fires and The Antlers on tour. Her former band The Jealous Girlfriends recorded a song for Grey’s Anatomy. Not bad for someone who wasn’t allowed to listen to secular music growing up.

The Magician’s Private Library was recorded at Dave Sitek’s Brooklyn studio last year and features guest appearances from TV On The Radio members Kyp Malone and Jaleel Bunton.

Currently on a headline tour in Europe after supporting Tegan and Sara, Holly will playing these venues in July:
