Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals, Neon Neon) has just released his sparkly third solo record HOTEL SHAMPOO. Hotel Shampoo album features 13 clever and cruisy psych bent pop gems, constructed with precision craftsmanship, charm and wit. It's a little ripper!
The album was aptly named and inspired after Gruff’s unusual penchant of hoarding every complimentary hotel product he came across while touring the world.
“In 1995 I began touring the world industrially as a pop musician. A gleaming new cosmos of hotel accommodation opened up for me and in an instant I was seduced by the free product available in the rooms. I hoarded these objects in a rush of mild kleptomania... Having never kept a journal these items have become like diary entries truggering memories of all those buildings and random people I’ve met and inspiring some of the songs on the album. “
It’s been a busy recording period for Gruff. Not only has he been recording and releasing his new album, but he's also recently guest appeared on the Danger Mouse/Sparklehorse album ‘Dark Night of the Soul’, Simian Mobile Mobile Disco’s ‘Temporary Pleasure’ and collaborating of the ‘Superfast Jellyfish’ track for the Gorillaz’s Plastic Beach album with De Le Soul.
Right now, you can grab Gruff's new single Sensations In the Dark for FREE over at iTunes Australia, where it's been picked as their Single Of The Week! Good stuff. Go grab it.
You will never look at Hotel Shampoo bottles the same ever again (gladly).
