The Future Will Come, The Juan MacLean’s highly anticipated sophomore album will be released in Australia and New Zealand on May 2nd (April 27 on Itunes). Unabashedly emotional, both in lyrically and musically, it’s difficult not to let each song take over your head and body, turning you into the dancing, breathing robot Juan MacLean and Nancy Whang (of LCD Soundsystem) sing about.
With the help of DFA label mates Gerry Fuchs (formerly of !!!), Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel (both of Holy Ghost!), and, of course, Nancy, Juan was able to put together album full of surprises. Book ended with two 2008 club hits, “The Simple Life” and “Happy House”, that set the stage for the release of The Future Will Come. Opening with “The Simple Life”, released to the masses last year, is dark and hypnotic. Closing with “Happy House”, the Chicago House-heavy, International club anthem from that graced many a 2008 best of lists from to Pitchfork to Time Out to the Voice’s Pazz & Jop.
While the second full-length from The Juan MacLean may sound effortless in its execution, don’t be deceived. This record was made in accordance with a very careful plan. “Before going into production of the album, before I wrote anything, I had aesthetic and conceptual guidelines in mind,” admits MacLean. “I stuck to those, and they panned out.
”Whang acknowledges that the polish and precision of The Future Will Come may catch some devotees off guard. “I know diehard Juan MacLean fans are going to be surprised, because the material is so vocal, and much more pop.” But she does not fear resistance from the masses. Nor should she. Fully-realized and flawlessly executed from start to finish, The Future Will Come stands poised to disarm millions of listeners.
